Here for good
We’re taking practical steps to carry our enduring legacy of sustainability into the future.
From the very beginning we’ve looked beyond our winery and vineyards.
Thoughtfully chosen materials echo the care we have for our environment. Our winery is powered with the help of solar energy. We continue to nurture the thriving wetlands we’ve established beside our winery that has become home to a diversity of native flora and fauna.
Recycled NZ glass
In an industry dominated by coal-powered glass produced overseas, we have chosen to bottle our wines in New Zealand, using New Zealand-sourced, lightweight recycled glass, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our local industry.
Powered by solar
Our winery is powered with the help of over 300 solar panels, drastically reducing our use of energy from the main grid.
Restoring local habitats
The wetlands we have established beside our central bottling and warehousing facility play an important role in maintaining a healthy eco-system and is a thriving habitat for local fauna.
We’ve planted over 2,250 plants and eradicated 69 pest species since 2020. We’ve seen an increase in wild birds nesting in the wetlands, and a proliferation of small native seedlings and water filtration.
Sustainable packaging
Our Grove Mill labels are made from sugarcane, a highly renewable material that utilises an abundant by-product.
INdustry-leading water conservation
Winery wastewater is recycled to irrigate our vineyards and native plantings through a system held up as a benchmark in Marlborough.
Small Footprints
Our small winery is positioned amongst our vineyards, reducing the carbon footprint of incoming grapes during harvest, and integrating into the landscape.
SWNZ Certified
Grove Mill is an accredited member of the Sustainable Winegrowing Initiative (SWNZ). We have chosen to use the SWNZ framework as a foundation on which to build our own sustainable goals, targeting a higher level than is required by the initiative.
Our environment front & centre
Our bottle heros some of the creatures found in the thriving wetlands beside our winery
The Southern Bell Frog, Bulrush (Raupō), Copper Butterfly, Southern Ladybird, Pacific Black Duck (Pārera), bees and insects, and the New Zealand Falcon (Kārearea).
